Reva Richardson of Lincoln is the winner of the iPad Air 2 sweepstakes sponsored by the Nebraska Educational Savings Trust (NEST) to acquaint Nebraskans with a free online tutorial about state-sponsored college savings programs, State Treasurer Don Stenberg announced today.

State Treasurer Don Stenberg will help kick off the official opening tonight of the Fantastic Future Me exhibit at the Morton-James Library in Nebraska City, urging children to dream big and parents to save for those dreams through the Nebraska Educational Savings Trust, Nebraska’s state-sponsored college savings program.

Stenberg’s budget request for 2015-17 calls for a total operating budget of $4.7 million annually, the same as last year. The request includes a general fund appropriation of $1.3 million each year, a decrease of more than $43,500 each year from the general fund appropriation in 2014-15.

Nebraska State Treasurer Don Stenberg thanked teachers and administrators Monday at Elmwood-Murdock High School for offering financial literacy education to help their students become smart consumers, wise investors, and community leaders.

In a kick-off event at the school, Stenberg also thanked the American Exchange Bank of Elmwood and the Corn Growers State Bank of Murdock for co-sponsoring the financial literacy program in their local school.

Nebraska taxpayers are reminded that contributions to college savings accounts in the Nebraska Educational Savings Trust (NEST) must be postmarked by Dec. 31 to qualify for the 2014 tax year state income tax deduction, State Treasurer Don Stenberg said today. The maximum deduction this year is $10,000 for a couple filing jointly or for a single tax filer, up from the previous $5,000 deduction.

Stenberg said account owners who contribute to their accounts electronically have until 10:59 p.m., CT, on Dec. 31 to make their contributions.
