Omaha Unclaimed Property Office to Close

Nebraska Treasurer Tom Briese today announced the Nebraska State Treasurer’s Unclaimed Property outreach office located at 111 South 181st Street will close its doors this spring.

“While the Unclaimed Property office served as a resource for those in the Omaha metro to file their claim quickly and easily, thanks to technology and top-notch staff, my office will be able to provide the same level of service at a more fiscally efficient cost to taxpayers,” Briese said. “I aim to be a good steward of taxpayer money, and this closure reflects this commitment.”

The final day the outreach office will be open will be announced in early 2024. Staff at that location will be transferred to other locations.

Briese encouraged Nebraskans to search www.NebraskaLostCash.gov or calling 877-572-9688 to locate any unclaimed property, including unpaid life insurance benefits, forgotten bank accounts, and uncashed checks.

In 2022 the Nebraska Treasurer’s Unclaimed Property Division returned more than $18.2 million and paid out more than 13,000 claims. So far this year the Nebraska Treasurer’s office has returned $14,303,852 on more than 19,000 claims.
