Grandparents and great aunts and uncles have until November 30 to enter the Dear Grandchild Scholarship Drawing, sponsored by NEST 529 College Savings Plans and First National Bank of Omaha, Program Manager for NEST.
Grandparents and great aunts and uncles are invited to write letters to the important children in their lives, explaining the value they place on education and their hopes and dreams for the children’s futures. The children must be age 18 or younger. A copy of the letter must be submitted to NEST and may be no longer than 500 words.
Six winners nationwide will be selected by random drawing. Each winner will receive a $1,000 contribution to a NEST 529 college savings account for the beneficiary or up to four beneficiaries of the winner’s choice. This is the fourth year for the Dear Grandchild drawing.
“The Dear Grandchild drawing is a special and unique opportunity for grandparents and great aunts and uncles to share their very personal thoughts and wishes in letters to the important children in their lives. The drawing also provides an opportunity for family members to offer encouragement and model the art of letter writing to the young generation,” said Nebraska State Treasurer Don Stenberg, Trustee of NEST.
“In previous years we have received many wonderful and heartwarming letters, and we expect the same this year. Because the winner is picked at random, anyone should feel comfortable to enter,” said Deborah Goodkin, Managing Director, Savings Plans, First national Bank of Omaha.
Entries must be submitted by email or mail, postmarked no later than November 30, 2016. The six winners will be selected by random drawing on or about December 9, 2016. Entries should be emailed to NEST@fnni.com using the subject line NEST Dear Grandchild Drawing. Mailed essays and cover sheets may be typed or handwritten and are to be sent to First National Bank of Omaha, Attn: NEST Dear Grandchild Drawing, 1620 Dodge St, Stop 1105, Omaha, NE 68197-1105.
Winners may divide their winnings equally among up to four children. With the exception of New York and Florida, the contest is open to residents of 48 states and the District of Columbia who are grandparents, great aunts or great uncles as of the date of entry. All entries must include entrant information as explained in the official rules.
