The Unclaimed Property Division is a repository for money and other personal assets considered lost or abandoned. Unclaimed property includes:

  • checking and savings accounts
  • commissions
  • contents of safe deposit boxes
  • death benefits
  • dividends
  • gift certificates
  • insurance payments
  • money orders
  • paid-up life insurance
  • refunds
  • stocks
  • uncashed checks
  • unpaid wages

Treasurer Don Stenberg stopped by the NTV booth at the Nebraska State Fair on Labor Day, the last day of the 2013 fair, to talk about unclaimed property.

Treasurer Stenberg Returns Unclaimed Property to Secretary of State Gale

Nebraska Secretary of State John Gale stopped by the State Treasurer's Office August 21 to pick up a check for $50 that the State Treasurer received from First Westroads Bank of Omaha as unclaimed property.

The property, a cashier's check written on First Westroads Bank in 2002, was turned over to the state in 2010.
